IC Information:
Name: Howard Anthony Walter Stark, Jr
Fandom: Marvel Movie Universe
Timeline: From the film Captain America, year 1945.
Age: 26
Appearance: A slight Caucasian young man with dark brown, wavy hair that he combs back, dark eyes that are always intent on whatever he's looking at - from women to technology. He has a scar above his eyebrow from an accident in the labs. He wears a mustache to make him look older.
Abilities: Howard is a technological inventor, engineer, and genius. Mostly of military grade weaponry, but he also has created high energy level generators, flying mobile vehicles (more or less), and oh yes, he makes a mean shield. He also is a brilliant pilot and driver - if it has a wheel and a brake (or sometimes just a wheel), he'll be able to thread it through a needle. Not to mention, he's an astute business man who turned his family's reasonably profitable million dollar gunpowder business into some serious cash.
Personality: If Howard Stark was going to describe himself, he'd use just one word, and one word alone - Confident. It doesn't matter where he is, or what he is doing, Howard is always positive of his course of action and has no problem facing up to any level of danger. Be it Nazi bullets or the daunting crowds, Howard meets all challenges with a glint in his eye and a devil-may-care attitude that makes women fan themselves and men give him that slow nod of approval and respect.
Underneath that gleaming armor of self-possession, though, is a driving need to understand and experiment with the limits of science and physics. He's sometimes like a little boy when faced with something new and interesting - new technology will may his entire face light up like it's Christmas. He is the same way with people - he likes to awe crowds because he loves to see the sense of wonder on their eyes. He feels like it matches the wonder in his heart.
He tends to have something of an obsessive personality - it drives him to push his boundaries every day. This sometimes leads to great scientific and engineering leaps and bounds. Other times ... it's led to dark moods when whatever he is working on doesn't work out quite right. That has lead to partying lavishly to keep up the appearance that nothing has gone wrong - and drinking ... probably more than he should. Still, he is always able to work the next day, no matter what.
With all this passion, for ill or for nil, is it any wonder that Howard is a real romantic in the truest sense of the word? Oh sure, he's chased his fair share of skirt - after all, who can resist this much boyish charisma? But he prefers to wine and dine his lady friends - in the hopes that one day, he'll find someone strong and steady enough to temper his (sometimes literal) flights of fancy. One day, he'll find her. One day he'll marry her. Until then, though ...
History:
Howard, Jr., was born to his parents in the later part of World War I. His family was already captains of industry - from building weapons in the Civil War, to the Industrial Age, and into the 20th Century. Howard's creativity was shown at an early age. He was already building airplane engines in his childhood, and it was from these early designs he won one of Stark Industries many military contracts. He and his father would work together on many more designs over the years, but it was Howard's young genius that really pushed Stark Enterprises into Stark Industries, a multi-national company.
Howard's interests, however, weren't always purely academic. Charming, well-liked, he found girls at a young age and never looked back. Two years ahead in school because of his intelligence, that didn't stop him from being the only freshman to have multiple date offers to the senior prom. Far from being a 'brainy egghead', Howard was Einstein in a younger Ray Milland's body.
College was more of the same - but with Howard spending most of his time designing the forward thinking technology that put him together in the late thirties with Dr. Abraham Erskine, to develop the Super Soldier technology. Erskine had the serum, and he looked to Howard to develop the tech to administer it safely and successfully. It took Howard nearly five years (and many, many bottles of Jamisons), but in 1942, just months after Howard Stark hosted Stark Expo, the first and only successful human conversion happened. History was made that day, and in more ways than one - because it was the first time that Howard Stark met Steve Rogers - Captain America.
It was not to be the last - Howard and Steve were at first rivals for the affection of the same woman - but Howard graciously threw in the towel as he saw how things really were. After that, they became friends, and Howard was the one who developed most of the weaponry and gear for Captain America and his Howling Commandos.
That is, until Steve Rogers sacrificed himself to save the world by diving his plane into the Arctic, along with the modern technology of Asgard. Howard went North, to find the Cube itself, but more importantly, to find Steve. He didn't know what he could do for his friend, but he was going to at least see that he got home. It is from this period that Howard would be pulled into the Facility - long before he meets the love of his life, Maria Stark, and gives birth to the child prodigy, and in his personal and not-so-humble opinion, the great creation he ever had a hand in, Anthony Stark.

Howard stared up at the dome, looking out to the distant stars through the thick glass. He sighed as he leaned up on his elbows, speaking out-loud, "You know, I used to dream about going out to the stars. Flying high enough to touch the moon. I used to dream of creating things no one else had even thought of - Jules Verne was going to have nothing on me."
He looked around him, to the graves he had constructed. They were simple - two pieces of twisted, useless steel, folded into crosses with names welded on them. There were so many now - Tony, Jenny, Komui ... the list just went on and on. Now he was surrounded by the dead, instead of the living. Thank God for Inara -- without her living he would have gone completely insane.
He sighed, reaching into his pocket for one of his smokes. "You know what I dream of now? I dream of surviving. Of just getting through this nightmare alive. Isn't that sad? That all I'm left of those big dreams is making it to the next day, and the next one."
He looked back up to the dome. "Maybe someday soon, I can dream big again ... but for now, I guess I'll just work on breathing." He smirked faintly, sadly. "I'm pretty sure you could all get behind that."

You know, I don't often complain -- I like making do. I like coming up with new options to take the place of old ones, especially if it means I can get creative. I like the challenge that comes from finding yourself in a pickle and managing to make relish despite the sourness. I'm one hundred percent behind innovation, and you all know this ...mad scientist moniker and all.
But let me tell you something, people, the one thing I wish we could improve and I know one of the few things I've got little to no influence over, is the goddamned lack of entertainment. Seriously, what I wouldn't do for a theater, with a big bag of popcorn for me and my girl and the latest Betty Grable film. I'd kill for a concert, and probably murder for a nightclub act.
Of all the things I wish I could sacrifice, boredom? Is the top of my damned list.
This game includes horrible mental and physical torture of your character. After reading the rules/faq for clarification, how do you expect your character to handle this and continue to function?
For the simple reason that Howard has survived all of this before, and come out better for it. He has been stabbed, shot, forcibly made sober, watched his friends die one by one, killed thousands of people to save the very place that has tortured him. He's faced his own worse demons, and a lot of everyone else's, with the same steely resolve. Sure, he's cracked more than once, but all that's done is make him melt down, and mold himself into something better. Stronger. More assured and more determined. He's gone through the long haul, and he can do it again.
Questions? Comments? Crazed and creative statements? Those go here. I just want to get Howard back.
